60-90 N + P2O5 + 40 K20kg/ha, if not inoculated, use Sulphur containing
fertilizers and FYM should be encouraged. Treat the seed with
Rhizobium japonicum.
- lntercultivation and other management practices:
- Keep the crop free from weeds upto 35 DAS. 1-2 hoeings. Use
Lasso @ 2.0 l/ha as pre-emergence to check weed growth.
|
Irrigation
- Under I.D.. conditions irrigate at critical stages i.e.,
at flowering and pod filling stages.

Harvesting and Post Harvesting Technology:
- The crop is harvested when the majority of leaves have
become golden yellow and ready to fail and the lowest pods are yellowish
and dry.
- Seed is to be dried properly to a moist level of 11-12%
before storage.
Recommendations
- Andhra Pradesh is suitable for soybean cultivation during
rabi as winter is mild.
- The quality of rabi soybean seed will be good and can
be used as seed for kharif. Thus our state has potential to supply seed
to North Indian States.
- All the varieties used in kharif(JS 335, PK 1029,LSB
3, MACS 450) can be used in the rabi.
Simple Interventions for increasing Pulse production
Pigeonpea
1. Drought Management
- Growing short duration varieties such as PRG 100 and
Martha in light soils and low rain fall areas {Southern Telanganaan
and Rayalaseema).
- Frequent intercultivation after removal of the intercrops.
- Intercropping with groundnut (1 Pigeonpea : 7 Groundnut)
- Growing extra short duration pigeonpea (ICPL 8403) in
light soils in Northern Telangana region.
2. Helicoverpa Management
- Growing tolerant variety such as LRG 41
- Growing intercrops such as groundnut, greengram, blackgram
and soybean as component of IPM. ,
- Erecting bird perches @ 20/ac.
- Shaking the plants 2-3 times to collect the grownup larvae
and destroy them.
Greengram
1. Disease and pest management
- Growing disease resistant varieties such as LGG 460,
MGG 295, LGG407 and , WGG 27.
- Seed treatment with Carbosulphan (30 g/kg seed).
- Foliar spray with 1.5% Urea 2-3 times under drought conditions.
2. Popularization of new cropping
systems
- Intercropping in cotton (1 cotton: 3 greengram)
- Taking greengram as preceding to kharif rice in wet lands
in late transplanted areas.
- Taking greengram in summer in rice-fallows after Dalwa
paddy (Godavari delta).
Blackgram
1. Selection of proper variety
- Selection of short duration varieties such as LBG 20,
LBG 623 and PBG 1 for dry lands and LBG 645, LBG 685 and PBG 107 for
rice-fallows.
2. Disease and pest management
- Seed treatment with Carbosulphan (3Og/kg seed) for uplands-
- Maruca & disease management in rice-fallows and uplands
(2.5 ml Chlorpyriphos + 1 ml DDVP/lt water for Maruca; 3g CuSO4
or Mancozeb/lt water for Corynespora leaf spot and 1g Carbendazim/lt
water for Powdery mildew).
Bengalgram
I. Selection of proper variety
- Selection of wilt resistant varieties (ICCC 37, ICCV
2 and Annigeri).
2. Sow the crop on time
- Follow optimum date of sowing (October 15 for Rayalaseema
and Telangana and upto November for Coastal districts).
