Seed and seeding
Greengram should be sown from June 15 – July 15.
A seed rate of about 15-16kg ha-1 is optimum
for a spacing of 30x10cm.
Treat the seed with carbosulfan 30g + captan (thiram
/ mancozeb / carbendazim at 2.5g kg-1 seed to protect the crop from
pests and diseases upto 30 days.
Fertilisers
Apply 20kg N + 50kg P2O5 ha-1
before sowing as basal dressing.
Treat the seed with good quality Rhizobium inoculant.
Management practices
Give 2-3 intercultivations with in 25-30 DAS and one
hand weeding to keep weeds under check and to provide soil mulch.
Application of fluchloralin @ 2.5kg/ha as pre-sowing
incorporation or pre-emergence application of pendamethalin @ 1.5 kg/ha
checks the weeds.
Pest Management
Stemfly : Seed treatment with carbosulfan @ 30g kg-1 seed.
Acephate @ 1g l-1 or monocrotophos @ 1.6ml l-1
or dimethoate @ 2ml l-1 at weekly intervals from 15 days
after sowing (if seed treatment is not followed) is recommended.
Flea Beetles : Seed treatment as above. Spray endosuflan @ 2ml l-1
or quinalphos 2.5ml l-1 (if seed treatment is not given)
of water.
Thrips, Whiteflies, Jassids, Aphids: Seed treatment as above. Spray
monocrotophos @ 1.6ml l-1 or acephate @ 1g l-1
or chlorpyriphos @ 2.5ml l-1 soon after pest appearance (if
seed treatment is not given).
Pod borers like blue butterflies, spotted borers, tobacco caterpillars,
pink borer, gram caterpillar: Follow IPM measures for tobacco caterpillar
as given under blackgram. Spray chlorpyriphos @ 2.5ml l-1
or quinalphos @ 2.5ml l-1 for other borers.
Disease Management
Collar rot : Seed treatment with carbendazim @ 2g l-1 or
mancozeb @ 3g l-1 kg-1 seed.
Anthracnose, Cercospora leaf spot : Seed treatment as above. Spray
carbendazim 1g l-1 or Mancozeb @ 3g l-1 twice
at 10 days interval.
Powdery mildew : Spray carbendazim @ 1g l-1 or thiophanate
methyl @ 1g l-1 or Wettable Sulphur @ 2-3 g l-1
twice at 10 days interval soon after noticing the disease or dust sulphur
10% twice under rainfed conditions with 10days interval.
Angular black leaf spot : Grow resistant varieties like LGG 407, LGG
450, WGG 2 and MGG 295. Spray carbendazim @ 1g l-1 twice
at 10days interval.
Bacterial leaf spot : Soak the seed in paushamycin suspension @ 0.1g
l-1 of water per kg seed for 30minutes. Spray twice with
Mancozeb @ 1.5g + copper oxychloride @ 4.0g at 12 days interval.
Yellow mosaic virus : Grow resistant varieties like LGG 407, WGG 37,
ML 267. Control whitefly to check further spread by spraying monocrotophos
@ 1.6ml l-1.
Leaf Curl Virus : Grow tolerant varieties like MGG 295, LGG 460, LGG
407. Seed treatment with carbofuran @ 30g /kg of seed. Use optimum seed
rate, early sowing reduces the disease. Store properly dried seed in
nylon bag or polythene bag or compactly knitted gunny bags.
