Ikisan - Clonal Propagation of Mango Rootstocks

Clonal Propagation of Mango Rootstocks

  • Mango is commonly propagated on variable seedling rootstocks of unknown parentage, which may be responsible for clonal differences in the performance of mango varieties.
  • No attempt has yet been made to standardize rootstocks in mango.
  • Successful clonal multiplication is a pre-requisite to any programme.
  • Air-layering of mango has not been used for propagation of clonal rootstocks due to various limitations.
  • The modified method of stool-layering is an easy technique for multiplying selected rootstocks in mango vegetatively.
