WEATHER BASED AGRO ADVISORIES OF THE STATE OF ANDHRA PRADESH FOR THE PERIOD ENDING 20.09.2008 (Till Saturday morning)

During last four days light to moderate rains occurred at many places in Andhra Pradesh while isolated heavy to very heavy rains occurred over Telangana region. The maximum temperature ranged between 27-370C and minimum temperature ranged between 20-270C. As per the forecast received from Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad, moderate to heavy rains are likely to occur at many places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while light rains are expected over Rayalaseema region in coming four days. The maximum temperature is likely to range between 28-350C, while minimum temperature between 21-240C during next four days.

WEATHER BASED AGRO-ADVISORIES

Rice

  • The incidence of Gallmidge and BPH is noticed in Vizianagaram district.
    Gallmidge: Apply Carbofuran 3G @ 10 Kg per acre, if 5% silver shoots or one silver shoot per hill is noticed at tillering stage.
    BPH: To manage the pest adopt the following measures.
    - Alternate drying and wetting of field.
    - Provide alley ways of 20 cm for every 2 m before spraying, If not provided at the time of planting.
    - Spray Ethofenprox @ 1.5 ml or Acephate @ 1.5 g or BPMC @ 2ml per litre of water, If more than 10 hoppers per hill at tillering or 20-25 hoppers per hill are observed at panicle initiation stage.
  • The incidence of Leaf folder is observed in Ranga Reddy and Vishakhapatnam districts. Control by spraying Acephate @ 1.5 g or Cartap hydrochloride 50 SP @ 2 g per litre of water, if one larva or two damaged leaves per hill are observed at boot leaf stage.
  • The incidence of leaf mite is noticed in Nalgonda District. To control, spray wettable Sulphur @ 3 g or Dicofol @ 5 ml per litre of water.
  • In Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts, the incidence of blast is noticed on Swarna and Samba Mahsuri. Control it by spraying Tricyclazole @ 0.6 g if 5% leaf damage is noticed. Further remove the weeds in and around the field and field bunds and delay the application of Nitrogen fertilizer.
  • The incidence of sheath blight is noticed in Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts. Prevailing weather is congenial for further spread. To control, remove the weeds in and around the field and field bunds and spray Hexaconazole or Validamycin @ 2 ml per litre of water.
  • Zinc deficiency is noticed in MTU 1001 and MTU 1010 in Karimnagar, Srikakulam and Vishakhapatnam Districts. Correct it by spraying ZnSO4 @ 2 g per litre of water 2-3 times at 5-7 days interval.

Cotton

  • Due to water logged conditions reddening of leaves is noticed in cotton. Drain out excess water and spray urea @ 10 g per litre of water 2-3 times at 7-10 days interval.
  • In Adilabad, Warangal, Nalgonda and Mahaboobnagar districts, the incidence of Spodoptera is noticed in Cotton, Soybean, Groundnut and Castor. Adopt the following measures.
    - Arrange pheromone traps @ 4 per acre and monitor closely.
    - Collect and destroy egg masses and skeletonized leaves with early instar larvae.
    - Arrange T- shaped bird perches @ 15-20 per acre .
    - As a prophylactic measure, spray NSKE @ 5%.
    - To control, spray Acephate or Thiodicarb @ 1.5 g per litre of water, if one egg mass per 10 plants or early instar larvae are observed.
    - Arrange poison baits (Rice bran @ 5 Kg + jaggery @ 500 g + Monocrotophos @ 500 ml or Carbaryl @ 500g) in the evening hours for controlling grown up larvae.

Groundnut

  • Prevailing weather is congenial for the incidence of Tikka leaf spot and rust in Groundnut. To control, spray Mancozeb @ 2.5 g + Carbendazim @ 1 g per litre of water.
  • To prevent the occurrence of PSND (Peanut Stem Necrosis Disease), and PBND (Peanut Bud Necrosis Disease), monitor the incidence of thrips and control vector by spraying Monocrotophos @ 1.6 ml or Dimethoate @ 2 ml per litre of water. As a preventive measure, remove Parthenium and other weeds in and around the field from time to time.

Maize

  • In Mahaboobnagar and Vishakhapatnam districts, the incidence of Helmenthosporium leaf blight is noticed. Control it by spraying Mancozeb @ 3 g per litre of water.

Fruits & Vegetables

  • Bacterial leaf spot is noticed in tomato. Control it by spraying Copper-Oxy-Chloride @ 30 g + Streptocyclin @ 1 g in 10 litres of water 2-3 times at 15 days interval.
  • The incidence of powdery mildew is noticed in Bhendi and Cluster bean. Control by spraying wettable sulphur @ 3 g or Karathane @ 1 ml per litre of water.
  • The incidence of downy mildew is noticed in cucurbits. Control it by spraying Mancozeb @ 3 g per litre of water.
  • Prevailing weather is congenial for the incidence of Sigatoka leaf spot in Banana. Control it by spraying Tridemorph or Propiconazole @ 1 ml per litre of water.

Note: Spraying should be done when ever there is rain free period of atleast 6 hours.

WEATHER BASED AGRO-ADVISORIES FOR SOUTHERN TELANGANA AGROCLIMATIC ZONE (4 DAYS i.e 16.09.2008 (Tuesday), 8.30 A.M. to 20.9.2008 (Saturday), 8.30 A.M.)

During last four days light to moderate rains occurred at many places in Southern Telangana Zone. As per the forecast received from Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad, light to moderate rains are likely to occur at many places in coming four days. Western winds may blow at a speed of 12-20 kmph. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to range between 27oC to 30oC and 20oC to 23oC, respectively.

AGRO-ADVISORIES

Cotton

  • Due to water logged conditions reddening of leaves is noticed in cotton. Drain out excess water and spray urea @ 10 g per litre of water 2-3 times at 7-10 days interval.
