Management Time Table for Cotton (Desi Cotton Rainfed)

Land Preparation

  • Plough the field followed by harrowing till the required tilth is obtained. Keep the field in a receptive state to absorb as much moisture as it can from monsoon showers.
  • Add 10-15t of FYM or compost before last ploughing or sheep penning in summer months.
Seed Treatment

  • Treat the seed with conc H2So4 for delinting - Dry the seed in shade.

  • Soak the seed in water for 24 hours - shade dry the seed

  • Treat the seed with seed dressing chemicals against seed born disease.

  • Level the field with blade harrow.
Crop Management

  • Sow the seed by seed drill either in anticipation of rain a week in advance or immediate of on receiving of monsoon with seed drill.

  • First picking of cotton-pick the cotton from fully opened bolls. Clean picking - kapas should be free from dried broken plant bits-keep diseased kapas and undeveloped kapas separately.

  • Monitor the pest and disease incidence accordingly the plant protection-measures should be taken up.

    Land Preparation

    • Plough the field thoroughly till the required tilth is uptained.

    • Prepare the field into ridges and furrows to avoid water logged conditions
    Or
    • Flat bed sowing: Workout marker cross wise at the recommended spacings.
    Preparation of Seed Material

    • Delint the seed by treating with concentrated sulphuric acid-dry the seed in shade.

    • Soak the seed in water for 24 hours-shade dry

    • Treat the seed with chemicals against the seed born diseases.
    Sowing

    • Sow seed by dibbling at intersecting points in flat bed sowing when marker is used.
    Or
    • Sow the seed on the slant side of the ridge half way down by hand dibbling.

    • Store kapas of each picking separately.
    • Middle pickings are maximum and of same quality.
    • 4th picking quality is inferior to earlier pickings.
