Management Time Tables

Direct sown Transplanted

Direct sown

  • 0 days - Sowing
  • 80 days - Flowering starts
  • 120 days - First picking
  • 160 days - Last picking

Note: Recommended for heavy soils

Pre-sowing Management
-7 to –5
  • Plough the field followed by harrowing till the required tilth obtained
  • Add 10-12 t/ac FYM or Compost and give last ploughing.
Crop Establishment
0
  • Treat the seed with Thiram or Dithane M – 45 @ 3g/kg of seed.
  • Apply 24 Kg Nitrogen, 16 Kg P2O5 and 20 kg K2O /acre at planting
  • Drill Carbofuran granules along with seed @ 1 kg/kg of seed
  • Sow 2 ½ kg seed/ acre with the help of a seed drill
+15 to +20
  • Thin the excess seedlings
  • Fill the gaps with the thinned out seedlings (Preferably on a cloudy day)
Nutrient Management

  • As per rainfall distribution during crop period apply 10-12 Kg Nitrogen/acre atleast twice.
Weed Management
+20,+30 and +40
  • Run blade harrow in between the rows at ten days interval as per weed intensity followed by hand weeding within the rows
Pest and Disease Management

  • Monitor the pest and disease incidence and accordingly the plant protection measures have to be taken up
Harvesting
+ 120 Onwards 2-4 pickings (dry chilli) Note: Normally direct sown rainfed crop is not meant for green chillies.

Transplanting

  • -45 to 0 days - Planting
  • 40 days - Flowering starts
  • 80 days - Fruit maturity (First picking)
  • 135 days - Last picking

Note: Timetable is for a variety with 170-180 days duration

Numbers refers to days after transplanting (DAT)

Days Operations to be carried out
Pre- Plant Management
-50
  • Plough the field followed by harrowing till the required tilth obtained
  • Add 20-25 Kg/bed well decomposed FYM or compost before Last Ploughing
  • Raise seed beds of 1m width and 40m long sufficient for one acre
  • Do not use chemical fertilizers to nursery beds
  • Nursery Management (40 m2 nursery sufficient for one acre)
-45
  • Treat the seed with Thiram or Dithane M-45 @ 3g/kg seed
  • Apply 100g of Carbofuran 3G granules/40 m2 nursery bed at seeding
  • Sow 650g of seed / 40m2 uniformly
  • Sprinkle sand and finely powdered FYM on beds about 1cm thickness for complete covering of seed and better germination
  • Straw mulching is advantageous to avoid exposing of seed while watering in the initial stages, for better water retention and to reduce evaporation losses
  • Run a roller for better compaction immediately after sowing.
- 19 and –12
  • Spray any copper fungicide at 12th and 19th day of nursery against damping off disease.
-7
  • Top the seedlings a week before transplantation on a sunny day if there is excessive seedling growth.
Crop Establishment
0
  • Six week aged seedlings are to be transplanted (preferably on a cloudy day)
  • Treat the seedlings with Azospirillum for better establishment and growth (2 kg Azospirillum with 10 litres of water)
  • Root portion of seedlings are soaked in this mixture for 20 – 30 minutes and then planted in the main field.
  • Plant at 45 cm x 75 cm (within and between rows) 2 seedlings/ hill (light soils)
  • Plant at 60 cm x 60 cm (within and between rows), 2 seedlings / hill (heavy soils)
+ 7 to +10
  • Fill the gaps by transplantation
Weed Management
-21
  • Incorporation of Trifluralin ½ kg/acre
+1 to +2
  • Alachlor 0.8 kg a.i/acre (Pre-emergence of weeds)
+ 25 to + 30
  • Inter cultivation with blade harrow followed by line weeding within the rows
  • Repeat the intercultivation at 10-12 days intervals till the crop canopy fully covers the land

  • Or If crop is sown on ridges – use planet Junior hoe for inter cultivation.
Nutrient Management
-15 to –10
  • Sheep penning @ 1000 – 2000 sheep/acre
0
  • Apply FYM or Compost @ 10-12t/acre – incorporate into the soil
  • Apply 1-1 1/2 t/acre pig or poultry manure
  • Add neem cake @ 1-11/2 quintal/acre where root grub is a problem
  • Apply 24 kg Nitrogen, 24 Kg P2O5 and 12 kg K2O / acre
  • Apply 10 kg Zinc Sulphate /acre if zinc deficiency is observed
+45 +60 + 75
  • Apply 12Kg Nitrogen and 4 Kg K2O/acre
+ 95 +115
  • Apply 12 Kg Nitrogen / acre

  • Spray 1% urea along with any insecticide or fungicide whenever sprayed
Note:- 1. Do not mix urea with Carbaryl
  1. 1. If Zinc deficiency is observed spray Zinc Sulphate @ 2g/litre of water twice at 10 days interval
  2. 2. In case of water stagnation in heavy soils-spray 3% urea for immediate recovery of plants
  3. 3. For top dressings use only straight fertilizers.
Water Management
+10 to +12
  • Give light irrigation after establishment of seedlings
  • Light soils : 10-15 days interval
  • Heavy soils : 7-10 days interval
  • Summer : 5-6 days interval
  • In case of heavy soils – while giving irrigation care should be exercised that there should not be water stagnation for even 12 hours.
Pest and disease Management

  • Monitor the pest and disease incidence and accordingly the plant protection measures have to be taken up.
Harvesting
+ 80 on wards
  • 6-8 pickings (dry chilli)
  • 8-10 pickings (green chilli)

Note: If the crop is meant for green chilli one irrigation should be given after each picking.
