Nagarjuna Integrated Package of Practices for Dalwa Paddy

Please ascertain to what extent you are following these practices

Paddy is the principle crop in East and West Godavari districts. By following the improved management practices there is scope to get higher yields in paddy. So if farmers follow the following practices they can achieve increased yields.

Varieties :

Recommended varieties by Agricultural University.

  1. 1. Vijetha (MTU 1001)
  2. 2. Bondalu (MTU 3626)
  3. 3. Cotton Dora Sannalu (MTU 1010)
  4. 4. I.R.64

  • Apart from the above varieties, other varieties which are having comparatively less problems and which can be marketed easily should be selected.
  • From recognised institute after obtaining receipt seed may be obtained.
  • 25kg seed is sufficient for one acre. For hybrid rice variety 6-8kg seed is sufficient for one acre.
  • Seed treatment with 2gm sivic or 4gm zen per one kg seed to be done.
  • MTU 1001, MTU 1010 variety seeds are having seed dormancy. To break the dormancy keep one kg of seed in one litre of water mixed with 6.3ml of conc.nitric acid. The seed is to be soaked in this solution for 24hours and then washed with water, later incubated and broadcasted in the nursery.

Management Practices for Nursery

To get seedlings to plant in one acre 5cents (200sq.mt)area nursery is required.

  • 500kg well decomposed Farmyard manure to be applied.
  • 7 to 10 days before sowing the land preparation should be started.
  • In the last puddle super phosphate 6kgs + Muriate of Potash 2kgs + Nagarjuna Urea + 4kgs OR
  • D.A.P-2.5kgs + Muriate of Potash +2kgs + Nagarjuna urea + 3kgs to be applied.
  • For every 5fect width nursery keep one foot drainage channel.
  • Nursery should be levelled with hand to avoid water stagnation and spoilage of seed sown.
  • After seed treatment seed to be incubated and distributed uniformly in the nursery.
  • From 7 days after sowing keep a thin film of water in the field.
  • Drain and keep fresh water often so that nursery grows well.
  • If more water is kept in nursery, seedlings grows tall and weak.
  • 10-12days after sowing in the nursery for 5cents apply 1kg sanvex - 4G granules to control green leaf happens, stem borer and leaf folder pests. After granule application upto 3 days do not drain the water in the field.
  • Between 12 to 15days of sowing nursery for 10 litres water and 6gms sivic along with 0.6gms Dantop and spray to control Blast and Sucking Pests.
  • If the granules could not be applied in the nursery, 5-7days before pulling the nursery apply 1kg Sanvex-4G granules in the mainfield so that upto 15-20 days of planting protection will be there for the crop against sucking pests, stem borer, leaf folder pests.
  • Transplanting 25-30days nursery is desirable.
  • If nursery is not healthy spray Polyfeed 15gms per litre of water for which good effect can be seen within days of its application.

Management Practices in Transplanting

  • 10-15days before transplanting start puddling the mainfield.
  • To the extent of availability apply farm yard manure in the last ploughing.
  • Apply 20kg Nagarjuna Zinc sulphate in the first or 2nd puddling and incorporate by ploughing. Donot mix Zinc sulphate with phosphorous fertilizer.
  • Apply Super phosphate 150-200 kgs along with Muriate of Potash 20-30kgs and Nagarjuna urea 25-35kgs per acre in the last puddle or at levelling with levelling plank. (OR)
  • Apply D.A.P 50 to 75kgs and Muriate of Potash 20 to 30kgs per acre without fail. (or) soil fertility (or)
  • Based on soil test data or soil type experience with the region the dosage of the above fertilizers varies.
  • Up to 48 hours after fertilizer application.
  • See that water should not go outside the field.
  • Application of biofertilizers like Phosphobacteria 2.5kg, Azospirillum 2.5kg per acre will give good results. These may be applied in the last puddle without mixing with chemical fertilizers.
  • Ropping of the rice seedlings to be transplanted is required before planting.
  • Keep 44 hills/sq.mt
  • Plant one or two seedlings only per hill.
  • Drain the water in the field and adopt shallow planting so that tillering will be good. Deep planting results in poor tillering.
  • Keep 6-8 inches pathways for every 2 meters of crop in the main field.

Weed control

  • Between 3 to 5 days after last puddling or planting (which ever is earlier) spray 500ml Eraze 50% E.C (Pretilachlor) mixed in 150litres water per acre or applied uniformly after mixing with 20 to 25 kg sand.
  • Keep 2-3 cm of depth of water in the field when weed control granules are applied.
  • Take care water should not go outside the field upto 3 days of application of the granules.

Water Management

  • Till the planted seedlings are established keep only thin film of water in the field.
  • Keep only 2 to 3cm of water in the field from the seedlings establishment stage to the end of tillering stage.
  • At the end of tillering stage drain the water in the field completely and again irrigate after 2 to 3 days.
  • From Panicle initiation stage to milking stage keep 5cm. Water in the field.

Top Dressing of Fertilizers

  • Apply Nagarjuna Urea 30 to 50kgs along with Muriate of Potash 5 to 10kg per acre.
  • This dose should be applied twice, once at 15days and second at 30days after planting.
  • The fertilizer dose depends on soil fertility and stage of crop growth.
  • In light soils the above fertilizers are to be applied in 3 split doses.
  • Before fertilizer application drain the water in the field and close the bunds.
  • If Zinc sulphate is not applied in the last puddle, spray Mahazinc(Zn 33%) 15 to 20 grams mixed in 10litres of water. Spray twice at 15 to 20 days interval after planting.
  • For higher yields and grain quality at 20-25days after planting spray Polyfeed 150 grams mixed in 10litres of water and at 35 to 40 days after planting is pray Multi-k 150grams mixed in 10litres of water as foliar spray.
  • 150 to 200 litres solution is required to provide as foliar spray per acre.

Plant protection

  • At 15 to 20 days after planting apply 7.5kg Sanvex-4G. granules to control Stemborer, Leaf folder pests.
  • Sanvex-4G granules application is not having any bad affect on the parasites existing in the field.
  • Sanvex-4G granule application (resurgence) hinders other pests multiplication.
  • When Sanvex-4G granules are used keep 3cms of water in the field.
  • Upto 3days later to these granules application donot irrigate or drain water from the field.
  • If these Sanvex granules are not applied for leaf folder control, apply Sanvex S.P 350 grams or Warrier 300 to 350ml per acre.
  • From the end of tillering stage to panicle maturity stage brown plant hopper or Sheath Blight may affect the crop.
  • If 8 to 10 insects/hill are observed spray Dantop 12 to 18 grams mixed in 150-200 litres of water.
  • Dantop controls brown plant hopper effectively.
  • Dantop acts an insect nervous system and promotes quicker control.
  • When Dantop is sprayed even when insects are alive they cannot suck sap nor can lay eggs (Hoppers will go to coma or become drowsy).
  • Varieties tolerant to sheath blight are not available. Remove grass completely on the field bunds to avoid spread of the disease.
  • Sheath blight control spray Rhizocin 2ml per one litre of water at 30-35days after planting one and at 45-50 days second time.
  • From nursery to panicle stage blast disease may occur at any stage.
  • At the initial stage of blast appearance spray on the standing crop Sivic 120 grams mixed in 150 to 200 litres water.
  • Depending on the disease intensity spray after 15days again.
  • If Sivic 120gms /acr is sprayed at Panicle initiation stage along with the control of the disease, uniform panicle emergence, maturity, good colour to the grain, less breakage in the grain can also be achieved.
  • For the control of Gundhybug at heading stage spray profex 350 to 400ml.

Salient Points

  • At the time of fertilizer application water should not be kept in the field.
  • Entire phosphorous giving fertilizer dose should be applied as basal at last pudding only.
  • At last puddling or before 3 to 5 days of transplantation weed control chemical Eraze to be applied.
  • Sanvex-4G granules @7.5kgs/acre to be applied at 15 to 20 days after transplanting for the control of stemborer or leaf folder.
  • In the early stages if Rhizocin is applied Sheath blight disease can be controlled.
  • If more then 8 to 10 hoppers per hill are observed Dantop may be sprayed @ 12 to 18 grams mixed in 150 to 200 litres of water per acre.
  • Sivic @120gms /acre can be used for the control of blast disease.
